Grant Announcement: A Community-Based Study on the Impact of Texas’s SB17 on Marginalized College-Going Students

With a $299,999 grant from Greater Texas Foundation, IDRA will conduct actionable research on the impact to marginalized college-going students of Texas’s Senate Bill 17 and the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision regarding affirmative action in higher education. IDRA seeks to explore the impact of those laws on high school students’ access to college and the opportunities for equitable admissions, financial aid, and student support in Texas higher education institutions. Specifically, they propose researching how those new policies impact: high school students’ perceptions of college access and quality in Texas, including the impact on their decision to apply to and attend college in Texas; student success programs for historically marginalized students; and admission and financial aid opportunities for those students. The study will result in recommendations at the high school level, university level, and state level.
