Tens of thousands of Texas college students may be forced to leave school because they cannot pay outstanding account balances, but the scope and causes of this issue are not well understood. With a $75,013 grant from Greater Texas Foundation, Texas Appleseed will research involuntary disenrollment policies and practices across higher education institutions, combining data analysis with interviews to understand how unpaid balances affect students. The resulting report will identify opportunities for institutional policy changes that could help more students stay enrolled and complete their education.
