REPORTS TO: Director of Programs and Strategy
Greater Texas Foundation (GTF) is a private foundation focused on ensuring all Texas students complete postsecondary credentials. GTF is seeking an organized, detail-oriented professional with excellent oral and written communication skills interested in performing a critical role while learning in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate is highly responsive, motivated, and must be able to manage multiple projects concurrently and independently. An interest in public policy, in general, and education policy, specifically, would be an asset. Applicants should have a general interest in philanthropic solutions to education challenges.
The position is designed to support a variety of short-term and long-term aspects for the programs, projects, and activities of Greater Texas Foundation. The position is part of the Programs & Strategy team but may support other areas as needed. The ideal candidate will have some foundation or related experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Programs and Strategy team with projects and programs aligned with the foundation’s strategic plan.
- Designs, implements, and manages multiple projects, setting deadlines and ensuring accountability.
- Assists with developing foundation learning opportunities, including coordinating with external speakers and conducting secondary research.
- Assists with or leads planning of special events related to the foundation’s strategy and grants:
- Creates necessary event materials, whether in-house or with vendors, as needed for each event
- Supports content development, including identifying and inviting special guests and speakers
- Works closely and collaboratively with office administrator as needed to provide logistical support for events
- Invites guests and tracks registrations
- Assists with on-site management at special events
- Supports post-event activities including creating and sending acknowledgement communication as well as developing event reviews and analysis
- Supports the foundation’s internal and external communications:
- Coordinates with communications consultants on the foundation’s annual report, website updates, and other routine communications deliverables and tools
- Drafts routine communications on behalf of the foundation, including bimonthly newsletters, grant announcements, press releases, congratulatory notes, social media posts, and briefs
- Assists in communicating grantee successes to the board and staff as well as to external audiences
- Supports the foundation’s grantmaking process:
- Assists with initial early vetting of potential applicants and interested organizations
- Works closely with Programs & Strategy team to support applicants by providing guidance and feedback on concepts
- Provides input during staff and board reviews of potential grants
- Assists with programmatic and strategy-related due diligence, both pre- and post-grant award
- Represents the foundation at site visits and external meetings as needed
- In close consultation with other staff, coordinates agenda and material for board meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience with foundation programs and grants preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and summarize policy documents and research reports and proposals.
- Experience with public policy, education policy, and policy-related research preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented, and ability to work independently with the proven ability to multitask, set priorities, track projects, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to analyze processes and procedures and make recommendations for improvement as necessary.
- Ability to use discretion and sound judgment while maintaining strictest confidentiality.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including tact, patience, flexibility, humor, and courtesy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel; ability to utilize databases, conduct Internet searches, and learn other applications as necessary.
- Location for the position is Bryan, Texas. Candidates should be available to work routinely Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and after hours and weekends occasionally. Occasional overnight travel may be required. Employees have the option to work from home one day per week.
